Donald E. "Mac" McMannis

Donald E. McMannis, 83, of Oregon passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Arbors of Oregon. He was born May 18, 1933 in Toledo to Orland and Florence (Lemon) McMannis and was a 1951 graduate of Waite High School. Donald honorably served our country in the U.S. Army as a telephone line repairman. While stationed in Nice, France, Don was able to visit Paris and Amsterdam. For over 41 ½ years, Mac worked with Ohio Bell in installation and repair, retiring in 1996. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and Paragon Masonic Lodge No. 788 F&AM where he served many years in the prep room. In his spare time, Mac enjoyed fishing, traveling, cruising 5 times and vacationing in Hawaii. He treasured time spent with family and friends.

 

            He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Darla (Brand) McMannis; children, Kelly Odneal (Jeff Wilkinson) of Oregon, Ohio and Kerry (Susan) McMannis of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandchildren, Colin Odneal (Heather Ferguson) of San Diego, CA, 2nd LT Kevin Odneal US Army, Lawton, OK and Jacob McMannis of Cincinnati, OH along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. Mac was preceded in death by his parents, Orland and Florence; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harry and Nina Brand; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Harry and Shirley Brand and William Brand; nephew, Courtney Brand; half-brother, Harding Lemon and sister, Pauline Barringer.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Sunday, September 25, 2016 from 2-8 p.m. with a Masonic Service to begin at 7:30 p.m.  Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10a.m. in the funeral home with burial to follow at Lake Twp. Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 5757 Starr Ave, Oregon, Ohio 43616 or Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Rd, Perrysburg, Ohio 43551. The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Arbors of Oregon for their loving care provided to Donald during his stay and to Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their compassionate palliative care of Donald.
