Emily M. (Fondessy) Worz

     Emily M. Worz, 76, of Pemberville, Ohio passed away on Friday, June 2, 2017 at Bay Park Community Hospital surrounded by her family and friends. She was born in Elmore, Ohio on July 19, 1940 to Fred and Lillian (Smith) Fondessy and was a 1958 graduate of Harris-Elmore High School. For over 49 years, Emily worked in banking, initially with First National Bank and then retired from Fifth Third Bank in 2007.

     She had a loving marriage with Paul J. "Worzie", Worz for 30 years. Emily shared a love with her husband, of the Cleveland Indians, the Cleveland Browns and the vibrant color orange. They shared many seasons together on the diamond, coaching several winning softball teams in the Tri-County Girl's Softball Association, where Emily was the proud scorekeeper. Emily also had a lifelong love of horses and volunteered at Serenity Farms in Luckey, Ohio, where she served on the Board of Directors. In her retirement, she also enjoyed luncheons with her former classmates and retired bank colleagues.

     Emily is survived by her stepdaughter, Kendra (Steve) Matheney; grandchildren, Lauren (Nicholas) Hagedorn, Erin Matheney and Evan Matheney; great-grandson, Aiden Hagedorn; sisters, Carol Schanke and Ila Mae Taube along with many dear nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, “Worzie”; stepson, Eric Worz and siblings, Ruth Ward, Donald Fondessy, Lewis Fondessy and Oletha Covey.

     Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Thursday, June 15, 2017 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. with a Memorial Service to begin at Noon. Memorial contributions can be made to Serenity Farms in Luckey, OH, the Muscular Dystrophy Association or the donor’s choice. Emily’s family wishes to extend a special thank you to Emily’s niece, Karen Schlievert and dear friends, Bob and Carol Delker, Judy Reiss, Judy Michel and Sarah Krempa for their long term help and support.
