Eugene J. Zapadka

Eugene J. Zapadka, 80, of Northwood, Ohio passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on March 3, 1937 in Krakowa, Poland to Walter and Antonia (Banul) Zapadka and was a 1957 graduate of Woodward High School.  Eugene began working for L.O.F. in the late 1950’s and then began his career with Joseph’s and until 1974 with Food Town. He retired as an operator from BP Refinery after 24 years.  Eugene was known for always helping others.  He could fix anything.  Eugene enjoyed working on cars, hiking, fishing and hunting.  Above all his family came first.  He will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary (Fackelman); children, Teresa (Ted, Sr.) Whittaker; Pamela (Dan) Kunz, Michael (Jennifer) Zapadka, Steven Zapadka and Timothy (Sheri) Zapadka; grandchildren: Jessica (Steven) Kite; Ted Jr., Taylor and Tara Whittaker; Danielle (Andy) Kelsch, Joshua, Ashlee, Michelle and Jamie Kunz; Alex, Sam, Thomas and Bryan Zapadka; great-grandchildren, Justice, Jackson, Phoenix, Karter, Konner and Carson with one on the way, Meadow and Francesca; brother, Chester Zapadka and sister, Charlotte Andrews along with many nieces and nephews. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Celina Ryczko; brother Stanley Zapadka and great-granddaughter, Cheyenne Jeffs.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 from 2-8 p.m. with a Scripture Service beginning at 6 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Jerome Catholic Church with the family to receive guests one hour prior. Burial will follow at Willow Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Rev. Donald Kill c/o St. Jerome Catholic Church, Heartbeat of Toledo, Bowling Green Pregnancy Center or a charity of the donor’s choice.
