James Manley "Jim" Mercer

     James M. Mercer, 82, of Curtice, Ohio passed away on May 27, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on September 27, 1934 in Toledo, Ohio to Donald and Ruth (Klawitter) Mercer, Sr. Jim was a 1953 graduate of Clay High School and served in the Coast Guard Reserves. For 38 years, he worked as an electrician for L.O.F. until his retirement. Jim enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a life coach to many fortunate individuals. Though he was a man of few words, his actions spoke volumes of his wit, integrity and true wisdom. Jim will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.

     He is survived by his loving daughters: Vickie Mercer, Shellie (Lenny) Stieben, Terrie Ondrus, Amie (Ivan) Myers and Julie (Neal) Chancey; daughter-in-law, Carla Logan-Mercer, along with many dear grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; siblings: Virginia (Francis) Grosjean and Donald Mercer, Jr. Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Barbara “Babs”; children: Jimmie and Kristie Mercer; son-in-law, John Kirby; parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Emil and Victoria Nelson and sister-in-law, Chris Mercer.

     Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Friday, June 2, 2017 from 2-8 p.m. His Funeral Service will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral chapel.  Burial will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
