Laura Leona (LaPlante) Poiry

Laura L. Poiry, 79, of Toledo passed away at Genacross of Toledo on Friday, April 7, 2017. She was born in Toledo on July 17, 1937 to Louis Sr.and Sarah (Parker) LaPlante and married the love of her life, William R. Poiry on August 17, 1957. Prior to raising her six children, Laura worked for Toledo Trust. She was a devoted wife and mother who served as a Blue Army leader, a Girl Scout leader and a 4-H leader. After her kids were grown, she worked for ten years as a nurse’s aide with Riverview Nursing Home. She was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and enjoyed collecting bells.

She is survived by her loving husband, Bill; children, Laura (Jeff) Cooper, Bernadette (Dennis) Poiry-Murray, Pauline (John) Giedeman, Rebecca (Dale) Dachenhaus, William (Tina) Poiry and Lawrence (Christie) Poiry; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Yglesias and brothers, James and Gerald LaPlante along with many dear nieces and nephews. Laura was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Kate, Louise, Arthur, Francis, Thomas, George, Rita, Clara, Sarah, Henry, Eva, Joseph and Louis Jr.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 2-8 p.m. with the Rosary to be recited at 6:30 pm. The Requiem Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, (Locust Street at Erie Street) in downtown Toledo. Burial will follow at Elliston Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to the Allen-Clay Joint Fire Department.
