Manuel Martinez, Sr.

            Manuel M. Martinez, Sr., 85, of Toledo, Ohio passed away on Monday, April 10, 2017 surrounded by his family.  He was born in Asherton, Texas on June 16, 1931 to Manuel D. Martinez and Juanita Montejano.  Manuel served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves.  He worked for Penn Central/Conrail Railroads and in his younger years, Manuel enjoyed playing soccer and fishing.  He was also known by many as “Burrito” or “Tamale” Man.  Manuel was an avid bingo player and enjoyed going to the casino.  He will be dearly missed.

            Manuel is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Paula Martinez; children, Juanita (Rosalio) Bernal, Dora M. Pecina, Sylvia (Juan) Lopez, Lupe (Jose’) Castillo, Pauline Martinez, Manuel E. Martinez, Jr. and Miguel (Maria) Saucedo; 20 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren, 12 great great-grandchildren and beloved sister, Hilaria L. Martinez.  He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 1 sister.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Friday, April 14, 2017 from 2-8 p.m. where the rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church where family will greet guests from 12 until 1 p.m.  Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
