Sharon Jane (Sheehy) Materni

February 22, 1941 ~ January 30, 2017 (age 75) 75 Years Old


Sharon Jane Materni passed away peacefully on Monday, January 30, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Sharon was born on February 22, 1941, as the fifth of twelve children to John and Martha Sheehy of East Toledo. She was raised in the Irish tradition and was a lifelong member of the Roman Catholic Church.

 

             Sharon married her high school sweetheart Ernest (Boogie) Materni on July 9, 1960, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in East Toledo. Together they raised 10 children. Sharon loved to cook and bake but her pride and joy always was her children and grandchildren.

 

            Sharon is survived by children, Jack (Alex), Michelle, Joe (Wendy), Christine (Mark) Ramirez, Steve (Gina), Sarah (Tim) Jarosz, Martha (Chris) Meek, Tim (Sheri), Helen (Chris Castillo) and E.J. (Heidi); 25 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Ann (Robert) Plummer, Kathleen Kline and Jean Boraggina; brothers, Thomas (Nancy), James (Diane), Michael (Sandra) and Charles (Mary); sister-in-law, Janet Sheehy; brother-in-law Ronnie (Vivian) Materni. Sharon was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband; Ernest, infant son, Ernest III; parents; John and Martha Sheehy, brothers, Ray, Pat and Bobby; sister and best friend, Mary; and brother-in-law, Ed Kline.

 

            A special thanks to her five daughters who provided her comfort and care around the clock in her final months. Particular thanks to Martha and her family for opening their home to Sharon while she was ill.  

 

 Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Friday, February 3, 2017, from 2-8 p.m. with the Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 300 Warner Street in Walbridge with the family to receive guests one hour prior. Burial will follow at Lake Twp Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Cardinal Stritch High School.
