October 2, 1932 - January 14, 2008
Age: 75
Ambrose F. "Buddy" Morel, Jr., 75 of Oregon, passed away Monday, January 14, 2008 at St. Charles Mercy Hospital. He was born in Baton Rouge, LA. on October 2, 1932 to Ambrose Sr. and Ethel (Bordelon) Morel. The family moved to New Orleans soon after his birth. After graduating from Jesuit High School in New Orleans, Buddy received a degree in petroleum engineering from Louisiana State University where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. He was employed for 28 years by ARCO Pipeline Co., (Atlantic Richfield Co.) retiring as the District Manager of the Toledo pipeline district. An important accomplishment was his appointment as Project Manager in Anchorage, Alaska, for the feasability study in anticipation of the construction of the Alaska Pipeline. He worked closely with the Eskimos and native Alaskan Indians and traveled the length and breadth of Alaska, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Buddy was present in Washington, D.C. for the official signing of the treaty between the U.S. Government and the Alaskan natives. Buddy and his children learned to ski in Alaska and he continued skiing with close friend, Fr. Ralph Reichert, as long as he was able. Buddy enjoyed working with computers from 1979 to the present. His fascination with computers began with the purchase of the very first Tandy computer on the market. His enthusiasm subsequently resulted in membership in an early computer club, consulting on various levels which included Beta testing for Microsoft over the years, teaching visually impaired individuals to use their specialized computer equipment, and generally being a "help-desk" whenever he could for friends and family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Marjorie (Gardner), children: Lisa Morel Las, Mark F. Morel, Shelley J. Posey and David L. Morel; stepchildren: Christopher Spencer, Suzanne Bliss and Megan Kindilien; 8 grandchildren, 14 step-grandchildren, 1 step great-granddaughter and sisters, Rita Kennedy and Mae Mayer, 8 nieces and nephews, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Harold and Pat Gardner.
