Richard C. Garand, 74, of Oregon, Ohio passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg.  He was born on February 11, 1938 in Toledo to Frederick and Mary Garand.  Richard was a graduate of Central Catholic where he was awarded the Bishop’s Cross.  He went on to become a lawyer with his brother, John, practicing law for 48 years.  Richard served on the Oregon Board of Zoning Appeals, as a chairman on the Civil Service Commission and as a visiting Judge in Oregon.  
He was a parishioner of St. Ignatius Catholic Church where he married his wife, Darlene in 1960.  She preceded him in death this past January.  Together they raised 3 children and 2 foster children.  Richard was a founding member of the Oregon Community Theatre and sang with the Choraliers for many years.  Richard also worked and started Custom Tours and Travel with his wife and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren.  

Richard is survived by his children:  Rick Garand, Joy (Steve) Nichols and Fred (Sarah) Garand; grandchildren:  Rikki Garand, Michael, Matthew and Joseph Nichols, and Anthony, Chelsea, Ashlynn, and Collin Garand; 4 great-grandchildren; foster daughters, Dorothy (Tom) Caylor-Griffiths and Judy (Doug) Henry; brothers, John (Sharon) Garand and Robert (Alice) Garand along with  many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Fr. Fred Garand and wife, Darlene.
Family and friends may visit Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. and Monday from 2-8 p.m. where the rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.  Funeral services will begin on Tuesday in the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. and continue on with the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Ignatius Catholic Church with Fr. J. Douglas Garand, celebrant.  Burial will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
