Sharon L. Sprague, age 73, of Oregon, Ohio passed away on Friday November 1, 2013 at the University of Toledo Medical Center.  She was born on October 13, 1940 to K. Ward and Janette (Zachrich) Ensign in Holgate, Ohio.
Sharon was a 1958 graduate of Clay High School where she met and later married her sweetheart Gordon and celebrated 50 wonderful years together. In high school, she was a member of the National Honor Society as well as many other programs. She graduated from the Toledo Hospital School of Nursing in 1961 and worked for 40 years in such places as the Toledo Hospital, the Toledo Mental Health Center, Manor Care and others until she retired. Sharon was very involved in her community. She was a Past President of the Toledo Hospital Student Organization, Delegate to the student Nurses Association of Ohio Convention, served on multiple class and school committees, Past President of the Clay Elementary Mothers Club, and Cub Scout Den Leader. Sharon was a lifelong member of Christ United Methodist Church and was active with the Youth Fellowship and Choir as well as a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was a 15 year survivor of Esophageal Cancer and her courage was an inspiration to her family and friends. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, canning, freezing vegetables, cross-stitching, making decorative grave blankets for her son’s business, and was an avid O.S.U. fan. She had a love of music she shared with those around her and above all other things, she cherished the time spent with her family and friends.
Sharon is survived by her loving children, Jeffery Sprague, Michael Sprague and Steven (Rebecca) Sprague; grandchildren, Mason, Hannah, Haylee and Miles Sprague; siblings, Douglas Ensign and Kay Meyer; nephews, Greg Meyer and Ward Ensign; nieces, Laurie Adams and Lisa Smithmeyer. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gordon Sprague; parents; and niece Kris Ensign.

We have many fond memories of Sharon (and Gordon); from high school band, as young parents, and more recently as they faced the struggles of illness and death with faith and courage. Only six weeks ago, after her hospital stay, Sharon was catching up on correspondence, and included a letter to us (in AZ) with a most positive, inspiring message, bringing much comfort to us as we grieve the loss of our son. We shall treasure her thoughts, kindness and friendship always and her spirit lives on in our hearts.

With sincerest sympathy for your loss,
Larry and Barbara Drake
