Mary (Studnicka) Beening

Mary Beening, 96, passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was born January 17, 1923 in Milan, MI and attended Milan High School. Mary was devoted to her family and dedicated her life to creating a  wholesome, happy home for her husband and children. She loved and cared for many pets and enjoyed nature and the outdoors, with special fondness for cardinals and blue spruce trees, and was fascinated with Birds of Paradise flowers.

Before marriage, Mary was a “Rosie the Riveter”, crawling through airplane wings during WWII for our defense efforts at the Bomber Plant in Michigan.

Known as a DIYer “Handy Lady”, Mary was cleverly resourceful and could fix almost anything. She adorned the homestead yard with beautiful flowers that brightened the neighborhood and tended a huge vegetable garden for the family. She was found canning the fruits of her long labor every summer. and enjoyed dancing, multi genres of music from Big Band, Polkas and Lawrence Welk to 60's pop and beyond, and loved watching her favorite actor William Holden in the day. She could be heard singing tunes in a wonderful voice from time to time at the kitchen sink, loved to hear and tell a good joke and could really 'cut the rug' with the jitterbug!

Mary is survived by her daughter, Catherine Beening; son, Allan (Pam) Beening; sisters, Betty Studnicka and Kathryn Karlik , brother, Robert Studnicka and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Beening; son, Charles Beening and her sisters, Frances Studnicka, Pauline Tingley and Helen Check, brothers, Jerry,  James, John and Rudolph Studnicka.

Private burial will be observed by the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the charity of choice or to the family through the funeral home. A Celebration of Mary's life and graveside service for family and friends will be held sometime in the spring.
