Mary K. Burkhart

Mary Katherine Burkhart, age 90, of Toledo, OH passed away 10/12/18 in the presence of her two daughters and elder son at St. Augustine Health Manor.  Mary was born in Toledo on June 28, 1928 and was the first child of Gus and Claire Egarius.  Mary graduated from Waite High in 1946 where she was the football Homecoming Queen.  She also worked at Lasalle's during her teen years.  In the late 1950's she attended the University of Toledo in the department of education, where she was also an officer of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. 
Mary met her love of her life, Gary, at the Trianon Dance Hall in downtown Toledo and they celebrated 50 years of marriage together. During marriage, she assisted and worked in consort with him for Nationwide Insurance and for several real estate companies.  She also was employed as a receptionist for her son's dermatology practice for a couple years, as well as a volunteer for Channel 13 Call for Action for many years.    

Mary had a zest for life.  She loved music and was in several teenage bands as a pianist.  She also once directed one song with Guy Lombardo on stage in Toledo.  She was a winner on a television game show, Dotto, where she was coined the singing housewife.  She also was active in the Brownies in the Old Orchard community.
Mary also had a love for the game of tennis.  All of her four children played college tennis, with her one daughter, Wendy, winning two national doubles title and playing professionally on the Virginia Slims Tour.  She greatly enjoyed her Toledo area interleague matches playing mostly for the Toledo Tennis Club.  
Mary is a life-long resident of Toledo.  Mary loved and appreciated her family more with each passing year.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Garrett, who died in 2006.  She is survived by her sister, Velma Obenshain,; daughters Wendy (married to Brian Donovan), Penny (Michael Williams); sons Craig G (Tiina) and Garrett: She has fifteen grand children in ((double parenthesis)) and thirty great grandchildren in [brackets].  Descendants from son Craig G include: ((Kristiina (Farrell)) giving birth to [Blane, Brennon, Kean, Breah]; ((Craig N Burkhart)) gave her [Camden, Paxton]; and ((Heidi)). Descendants from Penny include ((Michael Williams)), ((Mary (Wood)) giving birth to [Elijah, Malachi, Josiah, Miriam, Silas, Naomi, Ezra, Boaz, Hannah], ((Penny (Bakhit)) giving birth to [Jaden, Ian, Carsten], ((Stephanie (Doucette)) giving birth to  [Katlyn, Chase, Hunter, Brycen], ((Diana (Liwosz)) giving birth to [Alexandra, Jameson, Audiana], ((Craig Williams)) giving her [Joshua, Caleb], Descendants from Wendy, are ((Nate Bailey)), ((Wade Bailey)) who gave her [Owen], ((Dean Bailey)), ((Blake Donovan)), and ((Case Donovan)). Descendant from Garrett is ((Garrett)).
