Mary Theresa (Katona) Horvath

Mary Theresa Horvath, 86, died Sunday, March 4, 2018 at her daughter’s home surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 15, 1931 in Toledo to  Eli and Mary Katona. Mary was a 1949 graduate of Notre Dame Academy. She was an accountant for Soldier Bros. Trucking and then a nurse at Little Sisters of the Poor for almost 30 years.  Mary was a member of Epiphany of the Lord-St. Stephen Catholic Church where she was active with the Altar Rosary Society. She enjoyed gardening at her cottage up north, woodworking, sewing, cooking for family, and music. Mary loved her family fiercely, had an extremely generous heart, and was the supreme “baby whisperer”.

 Mary is survived by her sons, Stephen (Theresa) Horvath, Eli (Beth) Horvath, Anthony (Tara) Horvath; daughters, Mary (Russell) Mcarthur, Anita Horvath (Herb Summers), Elizabeth (David) Dunn, Theresa (Raymond) Szparagowski, and Angela (Michael) Lamantia; 24 grandchildren which also includes Tony Montgomery, 10 great-grandchildren, and her 10 yr. old black lab Daisy. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stephen J. Horvath, Jr; sons, Leon and Joseph Horvath; brother, Eli Katona and sister, Margaret Balasz.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Thursday, March 8, 2018, from 2-7 p.m. with the Rosary to be recited at 4:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Epiphany of the Lord Parish- St. Stephen Church, 1880 Genesee St., Toledo.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Cherry Street Mission Ministries.
