Raymond Smith Obituary

Raymond R. “Smitty” Smith, 74, died Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Mercy St. Charles Hospital. He was born October 9, 1944 in Dearborn, MI. Ray was a 1962 graduate of Olney High School. He started as an engineer with Pennsylvania Railroad in 1966 and stayed with the company through the changes to Penn Central, Conrail and then CSX retiring with 36 years service, ending his career at the Walbridge Stanley Yards. Ray was a volunteer at Coy Elementary for 10 years and was known as the “Purple Card Man”. He enjoyed reading, collecting cars and Emmett Kelly figurines. Ray looked forward to Christmas vacations in Mexico.

 

            Ray is survived by Anne his loving wife of 26 years and their daughter Amber; sons Joe and R.D. (Cindy) and their mother LaDonna Smith; grandchildren T.J. and Cooper; a great granddaughter; siblings Samuel (Linda), Chauncey, Dennis (Brenda) and Kenneth; many nieces and nephews; friends Sue and Joey Rowe, Kim and Lynette Powell, Mark and Mary Lou Nadaud and the Coy Elementary family. He is preceded in death by his parents Chauncey and Helen Smith and sister-in-law Sue.

 

An Open House to celebrate Ray’s life will be held Thursday, December 6, 2018 from 4-8 p.m. at the Christ Dunberger Post, 4925 Pickle Rd., Oregon, OH 43616. The family requests no flowers. Memorial contributions in memory of Ray may be made to Coy P.G.A.
