Amelia C. Salas, age 83, of Toledo, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at home surrounded by loving family members. She was born on June 8, 1943 in San Antonio, Texas to Luis and Melchora Cortez. She will be remembered with love as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose presence brought warmth to the lives of those around her.
Amelia found joy in the simple and beautiful parts of everyday life. She loved gardening, especially growing flowers and plants, and took pleasure in seeing things bloom under her care. She also enjoyed listening to Tejano music and dancing, bringing energy and happiness to those moments. Scrapbooking was another of her cherished interests, reflecting the value she placed on memories, family, and the special occasions that shaped a life well lived. What brought her the most joy was being with her family. She will be dearly missed.
Amelia is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Sebastian Salas Jr; children, Rebecca (Ed) Marroquin, Jose’ (Joell) Garcia, Jesus Garcia, Rose Marie (Kevin) Ullrey, and Victoria (Gary) Bergfeld; grandchildren, Kaela, Isabella, Jessica, Alivia, Ed (Amber), Jose, Jordan (Courtney), Justin, Jake, Gabrielle, Adam (Rachel), Danielle (Sean), Ashley (Nick), Amber (Jason), Felix (Julie), and Stevie; and many great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Luis (Sara) Cortez Jr, Velia (Henry) Serratos, Irma Cortez, and Lydia (Mario) Diaz; her sisters-in-law, Peggy Cortez and Juanita Cortez; and brother-in-law, David Hernandez. Amelia was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, David, Rogelio, Jesus, and Albert Cortez; her sister, Oralia Hernandez, and grandson, Vincent Furfaro.
Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Thursday, September 17, 2026 from 2 – 8:00 p.m. A Funeral service will take place in the funeral home on Friday beginning at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions in Amelia’s name can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
