Beverly Hinchcliffe Garlick Koch, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and dedicated therapist, passed away surrounded by family. She was born on September 14, 1938, in Norristown, Pennsylvania, to Melvin Garlick and Helen Grace Kandle. Beverly’s life was rooted in compassion, service, and quiet strength. She earned her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Bryn Mawr College, graduating with honors. Her graduate work prepared her for a long and deeply meaningful career as a social worker in Philadelphia and later as a Marriage and Family Therapist in Toledo. In her private practice she specialized in treating patients recovering from head injuries. Beverly’s dedication to this work was personal as well as professional as she was herself a survivor of a serious head injury in 1991. With her roots in rural Norristown, Beverly was an avid gardener both inside with her potted plants and outside with her gardens wherever she lived.
In 1960, Beverly married the love of her life, David Koch, with whom she shared 64 years of partnership, travel, laughter, and unwavering support. David preceded her in death, as did her sister, Elaine Stanley.
Beverly is survived by her three sons — Timothy, Allen, and Stephen — who will forever carry her lessons, humor, and kindness in their daily lives. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Sam Moss Bell, Leigh Bell‑Koch, Josephine “Phine” Koch, and Lucas Koch‑Kreher. Beverly took enormous pride in each of them and delighted in their growth and accomplishments.
