Carolyn Ann Newman, age 72, of Oregon, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Hospice of Northwest Ohio -Perrysburg. Carolyn was born to Richard and Charlotte (Sarka) Lindell on April 6, 1954, in Oregon, Ohio.
Carolyn loved to crochet, work in her yard digging in the dirt, fish in the pond out back, and, most of all, make memories with her grandchildren.
Carolyn leaves us with some thoughts she wrote that she would like shared. " I pray that I made a difference with the elementary children at Starr Elementary School where I worked as a recess monitor, because they made a difference in my life every day. I am grateful for all my friends, especially "Aunt Jan", who was my best friend for 50 years and saw me through all my highs and lows…. THANK YOU. I worked for Dresch Lab for 45 years, retiring in 2017, and then worked for Oregon City Schools as a monitor for over 6 years. Also, I am thankful for Dr. Kaminski at the University of Michigan Hospital. He devoted his life to Bexxar monoclonal antibody treatment for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. It is because of this clinical trial that I went into remission for 30 years, and we were blessed with 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, our blessings beyond words."
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Vernon; children, Chris (Kristina) Newman and Veronica (Grant) Mierzejewski; grandchildren, Laney, Connor, Kaylee (Austin), Chad, Drew, Ruby; great-grandchildren, Adeline and Emery; brother, Richard Lindell; uncle, Leslie Sarka; and "Aunt Jan". She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Charlotte; and sister, Sharon Lindell.
Visitation will be held at Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S Wynn Rd in Oregon, Ohio on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, from 12 noon until 2 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Memorial contributions are appreciated to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
