Charles M. Shuff, age 64, of Toledo, OH, passed away at home on Sunday, March 3, 2024. He was born in Anchorage, AK on May 14, 1959 to John and Mary Lou (Schupp) Shuff and he grew up in Toledo, OH. He graduated from Waite High School in 1977 and later attended Owens Community College. Charles was employed with Conrail Railroad as a trackman for seven years. He later worked for Container Graphics Corporation for 23 years in production. Charles served 21 years in the United States Ohio Army National Guard, Co A 612th Engr. 3n , Walbridge, Ohio, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He traveled extensively throughout foreign countries, tours of duty included Jamaica, Germany, Panama and Honduras. He was awarded the United States Army Achievement Medal, 1998, the United States Army Commendation Medal, 2001, and the Ohio Distinguished Service Medal, State of Ohio 2004. He was very proud of his service to his country and to his state! Charles loved the Ohio State Buckeyes football team, Cleveland Brown’s football team, and was a Detroit Red Wings season ticket holder before getting ill. His weekly conversations with his brother, Gibson about the Buckeyes, Browns and the Wings will be greatly missed. Charles enjoyed going to Moe’s in Rossford, OH for the conversation and to enjoy a spirit or two. He enjoyed spending time with his mom, taking her the Toledo Blade puzzle every Sunday and he loved spending time with his nephews, Nathaniel and Graham, when they were in town from Traverse City, Michigan.
Charles is survived by his mother, Mary Lou Shuff; his siblings, Geniece G. (James) Schaber, Celine A. (Vernon) Collins, and Gibson F. (Lorine) Shuff; his nephews, Nathaniel G. (Erica) Shuff, Graham T. Shuff; Vincent F. (Violet) Collins, Logan L. (Jessica) Collins, Christian K. Gacik; his niece, Candice A. (Patrick Scholz) Gacik; his great nieces and great nephews, many cousins, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father, John T. Shuff; his brother, Neil T. Shuff; nephew Jacob Collins; and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel , 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Friday, March 8, 2024 from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. with the funeral service held at 1:00 p.m. Charles will be laid to rest at Restlawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to Northwood VFW Post 2984.
