In a twist that he could have written himself in one of his books, Dennie Sherer was born January 28, 1940, the birthday of his elder brother Garey, and died July 31, 2023, the anniversary of the birth of his younger brother Ron.
The three boys were born to Earl and Hazel Sherer in Toledo, Ohio. Soon after graduating from Waite High School in 1958, Dennie enlisted and served honorably in the U.S. Navy, studying at the Navy Electronics School and seeing the world.
In his professional life, Dennie was an award-winning Director, Producer, Writer, and Editor at television and radio stations from Colorado to Florida to New York and points between, including WDHO (now WNWO) and WGTE in Toledo.
Dennie's passions laid in the Arts: After leaving the Navy, Dennie formed a band called the Ron Garey Singers, after his two beloved brothers, where he played guitar, sang, and wrote some of their music. He loved the Theater, and performed as an Actor, Director, and Playwright with companies anywhere he was living, including Toledo's Rep and Village Players, Sylvania's Tree City Playhouse, and The Maumee Indoor Theater. He was also a published Novelist.
Dennie was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ron, and long-time partner, Dick Tippett; survived by brother, Garey, several nieces and nephews, many loving friends and his wonderful cat, Finley.
