Douglas Paul Breno, age 85, of Northwood, Ohio peacefully passed on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 surrounded by the love of his family after a courageous journey with cancer. Born July 22, 1941 to Henry and Lillian Breno. He was a 1960 graduate of Clay High School in Oregon, Ohio and then enlisted in the U.S. Army. Doug proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany as a Military Policeman. There he developed the discipline, leadership, and sense of duty that would guide him throughout his life. Following his military service, he pursued a career in law enforcement.

Doug began his career as a Police Officer at the University of Toledo and served as a town deputy in Millbury, Ohio. He was then a Sheriff’s Deputy for Lucas County before starting at the Northwood Police Department as a patrolman in 1973 and retiring as Chief of Police in 2000, serving for 27 years. His decades of service touched countless lives.

After retiring from the police department, Doug’s commitment to the public safety continued. He volunteered for the Wood County Sheriff’s Department. Doug also enjoyed his activities at Christ Dunberger American Legion Post #537. He served as Past Commander for one term and was a member of the Color Guard for many years where he participated in countless ceremonies to honor deceased veterans.

He was also a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. While Doug was proud of his career, he would tell you that his greatest accomplishment was his family.

He shared a loving marriage with his devoted wife, Jacquelyn, for 59 wonderful years. Together they built a home filled with laughter, resilience and unconditional love. Doug was a devoted father and grandfather whose wisdom, quiet strength, and steady guidance helped shaped the lives of his children and grandchildren. As a grandpa, he created memories with his grandchildren that they will carry with them forever. Those who knew Doug, will remember a man of integrity whose life reflected around his strong Catholic faith, honor, service and leading by example.

Doug is survived by his beloved wife, Jackie; his daughters, Maria (Tim) Wilkes and Nicole (Lee) Crofts; his cherished grandchildren Brenon (Jenna) Berry, Jaxon (Megan) Berry, Connor, Charlee, Cole, Cate, and Cai Crofts along with his bonus grandchildren Mya, Makenna, and Madison. He also leaves behind his sister, Linda (Bob) Caro, his brother-in-law, Jim (Mary) Roberts along with his nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Louie. He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, Josephine and Adam Breno and Linda and Clarence Dusseau; and nephew, Jay Roberts.
