Douglas Martin Cunningham Sr., age 79, of Oregon, Ohio passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2026 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio Toledo Center. He was born on March 29, 1947 in Warren, Ohio to William and Mary (Gearhart) Cunningham. Doug served in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. Doug married his wife, Jenny on July 29, 1969 and together they started their family, raising three children.
Doug began his career as a technician at Libbey Owens Ford working for 12 years before joining the Jones Hamilton Chemical Company. He retired after 30 years of service.
Doug was a devoted Catholic who enjoyed spreading his faith. He was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and the Knights of Columbus. Doug was also a member of the Walbridge V.F.W. Post# 9963.
Doug enjoyed wintering in Florida and in his spare time, gardening and landscaping. Most of all he loved spending time traveling with his family and friends. He will be dearly missed.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Jenny; children, Douglas (Mary Jane) Cunningham Jr., David Cunningham, and Sheila (Corey) Fussell; grandchildren, Alyssa (Casey) Witt, Morgan Cunningham, Megan Cunningham, and Mary Cunningham; and great-grandchildren, Daniel James “DJ”, and Benton. He is also survived by his siblings, Dennis Cunningham, Sherry Griffis, William Cunningham, Cathy (Richard) Maxwell, and Susan Cunningham and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Thomas Cunningham; and sister-in-law, Deb Cunningham.
A visitation will be held at Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S Wynn Rd in Oregon, Ohio, on Friday, September 18, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., where the rosary will be recited by members of the KofC at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Ignatius Catholic Church on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. where family will receive friends one hour prior to Mass. Burial will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery. Memorial contributions are appreciated to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or Walbridge V.F.W.
