Freddie Joe Smith, 68, passed away at home on May 24, 2025. Freddie was born on December 12, 1956 to Billy Joe and Pearl ( McMasters) Smith in Huntington, West Virginia. He would go on to meet the love of his life, Ginger Finley, and they would be married on November 14, 1986. Freddie and Ginger celebrated 38 of marriage together.
Freddie worked as a general laborer for a variety of companies throughout his life. He was never one to turn down a good conversation and often made friends with strangers over the years, with many people finding him humorous. He loved music and he would sing along with his favorites. Freddie was a dedicated fan of the local hockey team, the Toledo Walleye and in prior years cheered them on as the Toledo Storm. He was also a fan of Ohio State University sports. Another passion of Freddie's was camping, spending over 15 years routinely at Sunny’s campground. Above all, Freddie was a proud grandfather to his grandbabies, who referred to him as their papa. Freddie also cared deeply for his own children. He is a man who will be greatly missed by all the family and numerous friends he made throughout the years.
Freddie is survived by his wife, Ginger Smith; daughters, Courtney (Aaron) Cousino and Alexus Smith; son, Seth Rybak; grandbabies, Kaleb, Mason, Addy, Mckenlee, and Royce; and great-grandson, Adrian. Also surviving are special nieces Shelly, Kelly, and Jennifer. Preceding Freddie in death are his parents, brother Mike Smith, sister Debbie Yates, and son Charles Rybak.
Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Thursday, May 29, 2025 from 3 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. where a funeral service will be held beginning at 6:00 p.m. Memorial contributions in Freddie’s memory can be made to his family.
