Galen Ray Grindle

Born Galen Grindle into a vaudeville family, he sang Danny Boy on his dad, Ray's, knee at four years old and never looked back. He was performing in niteclubs in Toledo at age 17 with his partner, Jimmy Nickles as the comedy team Nickles and Gale. An opportunity to host a kids' TV show in Detroit opened up in 1956 after auditioning against hundreds of other prospective candidates. He became Johnny Ginger and his Curtain Time Theater show became the Johnny Ginger Show and would run for 12 years in Detroit. He would get guest roles on The Real McCoys and The Rifleman, also playing Billy the Kid in the Three Stooges motion picture titled The Outlaws is Coming. He also appeared in Meet Monica Velour (2010) and Alleged (2010).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Edna; brother, Kenneth; son, Randall; granddaughter, Samii Grindle; and grandson, Randall Jr. He is survived by sons, Rockland (Lek Gleason), Kevin, Jerry (Michelle), Sean (Carrie); daughters, Sandy Cooper, Karen (Michael) Fryer; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S Wynn Rd in Oregon, Ohio, on Saturday, July 11, 2026, from 2 to 4 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Memorial contributions are appreciated to the Toledo Humane Society. The family wishes to thank all the caring staff at Genoa Retirement Village and Sincere Hospice for their wonderful way of taking care of Dad.
