Gary D. Erick

November 25, 1955 — September 2, 2025

Gary D. Erick, age 69, of Elmore, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Ayden of Oregon. He was born on November 25, 1955 in Toledo, Ohio to George and Marian (Taube) Erick. Gary graduated from Springfield High School and continued his education at Owens Community College. He graduated from the University of Toledo in 1986 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He married his wife, Janel on June 24, 1977.

Gary was an active member of the Elmore Conservation Club, where over the years he served as their treasurer, president, and a trustee. He also belonged to Sandusky County Sportsmen's club, where he would participate in their cowboy shoots, under aliases "Nev R. Shotwell" and 'Willie Gunham Down'. Gary loved target shooting, hunting; he never let having Parkinson’s keep him from what he enjoyed.

He loved music, and playing the bass guitar, and had even built his own. When he met Janel, he was in a band, called "Bootleg" where they did AC\DC and ZZ Top covers. He loved to build, and work with his hands. He had a quick wit, and could always make those around him smile.

Gary was a devoted and loving husband, dad, papa, and brother. He will truly be missed by those who knew him.

Gary is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Janel Erick; daughters, Ashley (Nicholas) Avellaneda, and Elizabeth (Daniel) Steimel; grandchildren, Elise, and Evelyn; brother, Michael Erick and sister, Linda Martin.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
