Gladys R. Unsinger, age 80, lifelong resident of Jerusalem Township, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2026. She was born on July 14, 1946, in Oregon, Ohio, to the late Albert Sr. and Gladys (Katschke) Deiter.

Gladys graduated from Clay High School in 1964. She held numerous clerical jobs in support of her family, before ending her career at St. Charles Hospital, where she worked many years until her retirement.

She enjoyed reading, crocheting, trying her luck at the casino, playing bingo and scratch-off tickets, and spending time playing games on the computer.

Gladys was athletically active including playing competitive softball after she was thirty years old; she also coached youth softball. Gladys remained a fan of friendly competition throughout her life, especially during her monthly Bunko games with family and friends. She also loved musicals and was a longtime admirer of Julie Andrews and Barbra Streisand.

Glady’s faith was an important part of her life. Although declining health limited her ability to participate in church activities in her later years, she remained steadfast in her beliefs and found comfort and strength in her faith.

Above all else, her family was her greatest joy. She cherished every opportunity to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and extended family, and she especially enjoyed family gatherings that brought everyone together. Her love, kindness, and devotion to her family will be remembered by all who knew her. She will always be “Glad” to many, along with being a part of the “The Golden Girls” trio, with Judy and Carolyn.

Those left to forever cherish her memory are her loving husband of 58 years, Rick Unsinger, whom she first met on October 2, 1966 and married on April 29, 1968; 4 children, Rod Unsinger, Stephen (Ronda) Unsinger, Julie (Brenna Hott) Unsinger, and Timothy (Mary) Unsinger; 3 grandchildren, Amber (Theron), Ashli (Colby), and Grayson; 6 great grandchildren; siblings, Albert (Linda) Deiter, Jim Deiter, Frank (Karen) Deiter, and Bill (Sherri) Deiter; brother-in-law, Bruce (Sue) Unsinger; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and loved ones.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Gladys (Katschke) Deiter.
