Harold Wayne Sabin

Harold Wayne Sabin, age 98, of Maumee, Ohio passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 24, 2024 at Elizabeth Scott Community. He was born on May 3, 1926 in Hamler, Ohio to Steve and Edythe Mae (Sabin) Sabo. Harold was a 1944 graduate of Hamler High School. Upon graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving in the Pacific during World War II. 

 

Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, Harold attended the University of Toledo and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business in 1949.

He married his wife, Barbara Jean Emch on August 27, 1949; she preceded him in death on September 28, 2016. 

 

Harold was employed by Toledo Pipe Threading in the 1950’s before joining Art Iron Inc. (now Alro Steel) in 1957 and enjoying a 40 year career in Toledo; Fort Wayne, Indiana; and Columbus, Ohio.

 

Harold loved traveling, taking road trips with his wife and family all across the United States and Canada. He was an avid and excellent amateur photographer and an accomplished pheasant hunter. He was known as a “jack of all trades” who could fix anything. Harold was a lifelong member of the American Legion, a 75 year Brother in the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio and a 30-year member of the YMCA. He was active in the fitness programs at the Wolf Creek YMCA for many years. He will be dearly missed.

 

Harold is survived by his children, Carol Ann (David) Hevey, Jean Marie (Kim Toscano) Sabin and James Pren (Tina) Sabin; grandchildren, Adam James Rice, Austin Casto, Craig Casto, and Amber Toscano; and great-grandsons, Daxton Thomas Rice and Jordan Toscano. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara; brother, Harley “Rex” Sabin; grandmother, Nellie F. (Wallace) Sabin; and uncle, Cloyce F. Sabin.

 

A memorial gathering will be held at the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon, Ohio on Saturday, March 29, 2025 from 11:00 a.m until 2:00 p.m. where a memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Marion Township Cemetery in Henry Country, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Harold’s name can be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.

 

Harold’s family would like to offer special thanks to the staff at Elizabeth Scott Community for their thoughtful, loving care over the past 4 years.
