Helen Marie Young (Schwarz), passed away peacefully at home with her loving daughter by her side. Helen was born on March 19, 1953 to Fred and Maria Schwarz in Toledo, OH. Helen was an artist. Her interest in art began in elementary school, where she attended a Toledo Museum of Art summer program, receiving many completed certificates in various mediums. After graduating Waite High School in 1971, Helen went on to attend the University of Toledo, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in teaching. Before graduating from high school, Helen began “teaching” arts and crafts at the East Toledo Boy's Club. Helen began her teaching career, officially, at East Toledo Junior High School. She then went on to teach art at Northwood Elementary School and later at Northwood High School until her retirement. While at the high school, Helen would put on spectacular art shows, she received “Teacher of the Year” in the 1990’s. Her passion and diligence in the classroom would prove that her students loved having her and she loved having them. Helen was always involved in local art exhibits and festivals. Always going above and beyond, including the first ever Crosby Garden’s Art in the Park. Helen has created many masterpieces through the years that hang on the walls of family and friends. She loved to cook meals, hosts holiday gatherings, and enjoyed good conversation. Helen loved to laugh, and loved to make you laugh. She was a lover of all animals with her owning many dogs and cats over the years.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Andraya Young (Chris R.); grandchildren, Jazz and Rosie, who she cherished deeply; sister, Susan Schwarz (Fred Jaeger); brother, Fred Schwarz (Anna S.); nieces, Erica Sturgill (Juan Valdivia), Gabi Barren (Andrew B.); nephew, Eli Schwarz (Kati); and great-nephew, Roman Valdivia. Preceding her in death are her parents, Fred and Maria Schwarz; son, Erik Young; Ted Young, David Babcock, and Allison Sturgill. Helen's family would like to thank Southern Care Hospice for the wonderful care she received. A bright light has left our lives, but will continue to shine in the hearts of all those that loved her.

A memorial service will be held at a later time. Arrangements entrusted to Freck Funeral Chapel, Oregon, OH.
