James W. Kline Sr., known to most as Jim, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2026,
surrounded by his loving family, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and adventure. He was born on May 20, 1957, in Toledo, Ohio, and made his home in Oregon, Ohio.
Jim was the beloved husband of 29 years to Marlene Sloan. He was a devoted father to Viera Siegert, Louella Kline, Katherine Gill, Regina (Joey) Trombley, James Kline Jr., Tina Sloan, Christopher Kline, Amanda (Stephen) Adkins, Timothy Sloan, William Kline, and Syvia Kline. He was a proud grandfather to 22 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sisters, Rose (David) Downey and Pamela (Mike) Kline. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, William H. and Evelyn R. Kline (Jakubowski), and his brothers, Joseph Kline, William Kline Jr., and Richard Kline.
Jim’s life was defined by perseverance, curiosity, and heart. As a single father, he earned his GED and went on to pursue degrees in child psychology and culinary arts—an accomplishment that reflected his determination to build a bright future for himself and his family. In 1992, he met his wife, Marlene, and together they built a life centered on family and shared memories.
From a young age, Jim embraced adventure. As a teenager, he discovered his love for motorcycles—a passion that stayed with him throughout his life. He often said he lived life to the fullest, and anyone who knew him would agree. His only wish would have been for more time to ride what he fondly called the “Cadillac of scooters.”
Jim found joy in life’s simple pleasures: camping, fishing, boating, flying his drones, and spending time outdoors. He was happiest with country music playing, a cold Bud Light in hand, and a fishing pole nearby. Lake Erie held a special place in his heart, where he created countless memories with family and friends. Whether it was a lively gathering filled with karaoke, swimming, food, and laughter, or a quiet evening grilling steaks by the dock, Jim treasured every moment spent with the people he loved.
He worked as a security guard and a truck driver, with trucking being his true passion. Through his life and example, Jim passed down lessons his children will carry forever: don’t worry about what others think, family isn’t defined by blood alone, never wish summer away, and always take the chance to sing your heart out.
Above all, Jim loved his family deeply and found his greatest happiness in bringing people together.
The family invites anyone whose life was touched by Jim and Archie to join them for a celebration of life on June 13th at 3:00 p.m. at Anchor Point Marina. For additional details, please reach out to Syvia, Rose, or Amanda.
Dad, we hope you and Archie have landed safely in Heaven. We look forward to the day we can join you again—out on the boat, casting lines, and taking that heavenly fishing trip into the sunset. May your beer stay cold and your lines stay tight until then.
