James R. (Duke) Strance, 88, of Williston, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 17, 2026. Duke was born on June 6, 1937, to James J. and Rose (Martin) Strance. He attended St. Anthony's Church and School, which was the center of his young life. The memories he shared of living in the old neighborhood, within a few minutes' walk of his grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, were special. He graduated from Macomber High School and, at the age of 18, went to work for Libby Owens Ford. He retired after 45 years as a pattern maker.
Duke was a loving, devoted husband. He and Bette enjoyed spending time at home and in their beautiful yard. They both enjoyed taking car rides near the lake, as well as travelling to Europe and many parts of the USA.
He was dearly loved by his daughters, Jessica (Jay Hart) Georgieff, Jane (Robert) Skilliter, sons, Jay Strance, Joel (Brenda Hawk) Strance, and Timothy Vroman. Also cherishing his memory are grandchildren, Alisha (Charles) Piatt, Alexis Georgieff, Ashley (Nathan) Egbert, Emily (Craig) Pickerel, Amanda (Christopher) Kinison, Kristen (Tyler) Borth, Katie (Charles) Swartz, Tim (Kasey) Schneider, Alexis (Rick) Stewart and 19 great-grandchildren.
Duke was preceded in death by his wife, parents, sister Alice Baumgartner, daughter Bonnie Abele, and infant great-granddaughters Ella and Addison Egbert.
Private service will be held for the family. Duke and Bette will be laid to rest at Clay Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church (Bono).
