Joaquin "Joe" Ruiz Rosas, 69, of Toledo, OH, passed away peacefully surrounded by those he loved most, just after 12pm on Saturday, January 3, 2026. Joaquin fought an exhausting battle with kidney failure and other debilitating illnesses. Despite his strength and resiliency, God had called him home early. Finally, Joaquin can rest peacefully and free of pain.
Born Joaquin Ruiz Rosas on December 14, 1956 to Francisco and Maria Ruiz, in El Rosario, Mexico. As a young boy, Joaquin moved with his family to the United States, where he eventually settled in Toledo, OH. Joaquin graduated from Waite High School in 1975. Joaquin went on to work as a Patient Care Technician at St. Charles Hospital. It was fate. There, Joaquin met a nurse, Alicia, who he married in 1985. The happy couple welcomed four beautiful children and remained married for 40 years.
In the years to follow, Joaquin had many hobbies, with most of them including his children. Joaquin loved to watch live and televised WWE matches and Michigan games with his children. Joaquin loved the simpler things in life and spent a lot of his time playing with and enjoying the company of his grandchildren. Joaquin had a passion for building and painting models. From WWII tanks to Halloween haunted houses, Joaquin built them all. Joaquin will also be remembered by loved ones for his love of Star Wars and music. More specifically, his favorite, Earth, Wind, and Fire. A devout husband, a fun-loving father and grandfather, a brother, and friend is who Joaquin was. A man who never complained, was always positive and friendly. It was often hard to imagine the pain he was truly in, because he had us fooled with his smile.
Joaquin leaves behind an irreparable hole in our hearts forever. Joaquin was preceded in death by his parents, Francisco and Maria, and his siblings, Maria Amador, Yasmin Avelar, Alfonso Ruiz, and Javier Ruiz. Joaquin is survived by his wife, Alicia, his sons, Adam (38) and Aaron (36), his daughters, Alaina (31) and Alexa (Noah) McKinney (28), his grandchildren, Izabella, Angelo, Tabatha, and Lorenzo, and his sisters, Maria (Mucio) Duran, Maria (Miguel) Saucedo, Alma Duran, and Teresa Ruiz. Funeral services will be held at Freck Funeral Chapel located at 1155 S. Wynn Rd., Oregon, OH 43616. The viewing will be on Monday, January 12, 2026 from 3pm-8pm.
