Joeann "Joe" Smotherman (Pharis)

Joeann “Joe” Smotherman (Pharis), age 78, of Oregon, was pronounced D.O.A on January 18, 2026 while surround by her loving family.

Joe was born to the late William “Bill” and Lillian Pharis on May 28, 1947. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Joeann leaves behind a legacy of warmth, creativity, and a deep love for her family.

After years of dedicated hard work, Joeann retired from Morgan Linen Services. In her retirement, she had found much joy and peace from the littlest things in life. Outside of spending as much time with her family as she could, you would find her either tending to her plants or sitting at the sewing machine making a quilt for someone she loved dearly. Her creations are cherished daily and will continue to be for generations to come.

She is survived by her husband, Wallace “Wally” Smotherman; her siblings: Violet Hieber, Bernice (Danny) Eichman, Loretta Watkins, Donna (Roger) Naugle, and Thomas Pharis; her loving children: Cary Bradfield, Ruben Martinez, Corinna Martinez, Heather Martinez, Allen “Tommy” (Margaret) Martinez, and Robert Martinez; her step-children Mike (Carrie) Smotherman, Heather Smotherman, Wally (Brandy) Smotherman, and Brian Smotherman.

Joe’s light will live on through her grandchildren: Rick Bradfield, Nistasha Bradfield, Demetrius Martinez, Alaysia Downer, Ruben (Glorianna) Martinez, Marcus Martinez, Kelvin Downer, Andrew Martinez, Heather Martinez, Noelle Martinez, Ivy Martinez, Bianca Martinez, Kaylie Martinez, Alexis Martinez, Richard Martinez, Robert Martinez, and Zachary Martinez.

Joeann was also a proud great-grandmother to: Demetrius, Dante, Bentley, Landon, Mia, Roland, Lucas, and Kiara.

She had numerous amounts of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister’s: Maryann, Etta, Rosella, and Charlotte; her son-in-law Dennis, and her nieces: RuthAnn and Joyce.

Joann will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was kind spirited and had a humor like no other. Her family finds comfort in knowing that she is now at peace and she will live on through everyone’s memories of her.

A viewing will be held at Freck Funeral Chapel at 1155 S. Wynn Rd, Oregon, OH 43616 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on January 24, 2026. Services will be held at Freck Funeral Chapel on January 24, 2026 at 12:00 pm; followed by burial at Lake Township Cemetery at 3550 Walbridge Rd, Millbury, OH 43447.
