John F. (Butch) Bastubee, 81, of Northwood, OH passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by loved ones on the morning of January 13th, 2024.
Butch was born on September 1st, 1942, to John M. Bastubee and Dorthea M. Bastubee of Millbury, OH. He also had a younger sister, Sharon, whom he had loved dearly.
Butch attended Lake High School and graduated in the class of 1960. He was a humble and hardworking man who owned and operated B & J Auto Service for 61 years. He worked diligently alongside many cherished family members to deliver an honest and dependable service that many could rely on. For 27 years Butch was able to enrich his community by servicing the school buses for his high school alma mater. During his tenure at the family-founded and owned auto shop, Butch was blessed to have met and helped countless faces who would all become very dear friends. The relationships and memories built through his business were a very large foundation of the man he was.
Butch spent most of his early years with his parents and sister running the family business. Leisure time was spent outdoors between hunting and camping. The family also spent a wealth of their time on Lake Erie boating and fishing, as Butch was a lifelong member of the Cooley Canal Yacht Club. A dedicated family man, Butch was a strong and providing father and stepfather to 7 children. He was a loving and supportive Papa to 8 grandchildren.
Butch is preceded in death by his parents; John and Dorthea Bastubee; sister, Sharon (Terry) Chessher; and sister-in-law, Sheryn White. He is survived by his loving wife, Judy Woyame-Bastubee; children, Deborah (Jim) Zunk, Matthew Bastubee, Julie (Eric) Headley; stepchildren, Jennifer Hartman, Julie (Rick) Ruiz, Jodie (Darren) Tristano, John (Sarah) Rapparlie; grandchildren, Alexis Cannon, Elizabeth Cannon, Nathan Headley, Jessica Hartman, Jayla Hartman, Ricky (Kristen) Ruiz, Renee Tristano, and Jacob Tristano.
A showing will be held from 10 am to 1 pm on Saturday, January 20th, 2024 at Freck Funeral Chapel located at 1155 S. Wynn Rd. Oregon, OH, 43616. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. Burial will be private for the family at Lake Township Cemetery. For friends and family unable to attend the scheduled services, the family will be hosting a hobo hoedown when the weather is warmer. An official date for that is to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Ohio Living Hospice or Gracepoint Church in Northwood, OH.
