Leta Jean Cherry, age 89 of Oregon, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026. Leta was born on July 19, 1936, in Toledo, Ohio. She graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1954 and, in 1955, married Bernard Cherry. They celebrated 70 years of marriage in 2025. Leta was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord-St Thomas and was active in the Altar and Rosary. She enjoyed playing golf, watching University of Michigan football, attending her grandchildren's sporting events, and wintering in Florida.
Leta is survived by her husband Bernard; children Bernard "Bud" Cherry Jr., Steve (Paula) Cherry, Greg (Angelika) Cherry, Debbie Beck, Melissa (Alex) Szigeti, and Chris Cherry; grandchildren Erin, Brandon, Kristin, Brian, Colleen, Michael, Melissa, Robbie, Jessica, Joe, Jeff, Josh, Lindsay, Justin, Bill and A.J.; 19 great-grandchildren, 1 great great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Winfield and Gladys (Benore) Ragan; daughter, Patty Baranoski; brother, Winfield "Butch" Ragan Jr.; grandson, Garrett Cherry; son-in-law, Alan Beck; best friend, Roberta Tate; and in-laws, Joe and Ruth Marquis, Jim and Mary McShane, and Ken and Carol Hockman.
A visitation will be held at Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S Wynn Rd in Oregon, Ohio, on Thursday, February 19, 2026, from 2 until 8 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will take place at Epiphany of Our Lord-St Thomas 729 White St in Toledo on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 11 a.m., where family will receive friends one hour before Mass. Burial will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are appreciated to the Epiphany of Our Lord Catholic Church or Helping Hands of St. Louis.
