Lila Ann Younkin, born May 20, 1944, in Toledo, Ohio, to Fillmore and Jeannette Wamer, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 25, 2025 at the age of 81. One of 15 children, Lila grew up in a lively and loving home, where she learned the value of family, faith, and hard work early on. A proud graduate of Waite High School, Lila found her calling working in local bingo halls throughout her life. She had a natural gift for calling numbers, and her joyful presence lit up every room she entered. Her work brought her not only fulfillment but also many lifelong friendships.
Lila met the love of her life, Ray, while working as a cashier at Bargain City. Their chance meeting turned into a beautiful love story and a faithful marriage that spanned 44 cherished years. Together, with their children they built a life grounded in devotion and laughter. Lila had a zest for life and a heart full of warmth.
She loved gambling, traveling to casinos across the states, shopping and especially cooking, often filling her home with the comforting smells of her favorite dishes. Above all, her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. To her grandkids, she was “Nana”, and to the great-grands, she was lovingly called “Grams”. Her home was always a place of comfort, filled with bubbles, sidewalk chalk, Oreo cookies, and cappuccinos- simple but magical staples at Grams’ house.
Lila believed strongly in the Lord and had a rich and steady prayer life that sustained her throughout all seasons of her life. Her legacy is one of kindness, laughter, unwavering love, and a generous heart. Lila’s spirit will continue to live on in all those who loved her and in the countless lives she touched throughout her journey.
Lila is survived by her children, Robert (Dawn) Dunbar, Kimberly Perez, Raymond Younkin, and Kathy Shank; grandchildren, Samantha Edwards, Tabatha (Matthew) Kirkland, Bobbi (Justin) Anderson, Jodi (Corban) Rood, Krystal (Jamil) Dobson, Lila (Jack) Monk, Albert (Kayla) Perez, Chelsea Perez, Heather Ren, Eric Younkin, Michael (Natalie) Cascadden, Jason (Shelly) Cascadden, Nicole (Jim) Hockenberry; many great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren and her siblings, Kate Warnes, Phyllis Griner, Larry Wamer, Daniel (Carol) Wamer, Ike (Jo) Wamer, and Rex (Dorothy) Wamer. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Raymond, and siblings, Jeannette “Cookie” Berning, Bonnie Muir, Joyce McGuire, James Wamer, Robert Wamer, Michael Wamer, Mary Christian, and Patti Schinharl.
