Lyle Thomas Hamrick, age 72 of Oregon, Ohio passed away with his family by his side after a courageous 2 year battle with cancer on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. Tom was born to Adam Tate and Imogene Lucille (Lane) Hamrick on April 9, 1954 in Hinton, West Virginia. He was a 1972 graduate of Lake High School and went on to work in Industrial Maintenance for many companies before his retirement as a boiler inspector in 2013. Tom was very skilled when it came to his job, and built multiple pieces of machinery over the course of his working years. Tom married the love of his life, Sandi (Roderick), on August 25, 1973, in East Toledo Baptist Church. Tom and Sandi spent 52 years together overcoming many obstacles and eventually sharing a deep and abiding love for Jesus. Tom was an ordained teaching Pastor with Spirit and Truth Church in Oregon, Ohio, where he served as an Elder and took great joy in the Saturday morning Bible Study that he started and led before he became sick. Tom also attended Sunday School and Sunday worship services at Hope Community Church with his family.
Tom's greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He loved teaching his daughter and granddaughters how to hunt, fish, shoot, and, as a true jack-of-all-trades, fix and build nearly anything. Tom was a life-long member of the NRA and the North American Hunting Club. He was a fan of NASCAR, Duck Dynasty, bad dad jokes, and any show that involved taking things apart and putting them back together, especially if it was a car. In addition, he also raised 3 AKC Champion Spinone Italianos.
Tom is survived by his wife, Sandi; daughter Erin (Phil) Leiser; granddaughters Amelia (Mia) Rose Hamrick and Lily Grace Leiser; sister Carol Warden; niece Hannah Warden; nephew Hunter Warden; brother Larry Hamrick; numerous extended family; and beloved companion Lucy. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Rev Randall C Warden, and in-laws Bettie Roderick Fisher and Sam Fisher.
A visitation will be held at Freck Funeral Chapel 1155 S Wynn Rd in Oregon, Ohio on Sunday, May 17, 2026 from 2 until 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Freck Funeral Chapel on Monday at 11 a.m., led by Pastors George Czerniawski and Jacob Hawes. There will be a fellowship luncheon to follow at Hope Community Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are appreciated to St Jude Children's Research Hospital. Tom chose St Jude’s because he didn’t want any child to have to suffer through cancer treatments like he did.
