Margaret "Marge' Brown

As I prepare to leave on my final journey, I would like to thank all those who, at any time, interacted with me, because you have made me who I am.

In 1937 I came into this world being number 12 out of 13 to John and Mildred (Duvall) TenEyck, Sr. Our home was on Cedar Point Rd. which was filled with love and laughter.

My education was at Clay Elementary and on to the new Clay High School, being part of the graduating class of 1955, a class that has remained in contact with each other. To continue in my mother’s footsteps, I entered Mary Manse College in Toledo, earning a Cadet Certificate to teach 2 years, which was a requirement. In 1968, with many classes under my belt, I graduated with a BA. My mother had 6 weeks training at Bowling Green Normal College and taught 1 year in a one room school.

My teaching career started in 1957 in Graytown, Ohio and then onto the Oregon School System, working for individuals as Mr. Stout, Don Charlton, Henry Wood, Wray Dunson, and many others in the 39 years of my profession. Each one gave me a different perspective of what makes a teacher. Two years were given to St. Thomas Aquinas. My life was filled with children; what a rewarding profession!

In 1957 I was married to John Brown, Jr in a union that lasted 31 years until his death in 1988. That union produced 3 wonderful children: Joani in 1961, Jeanie in 1964, and Jeffrey in 1970. What joy and happiness, as all three had different interests.

Along the way, my parents met their maker with my siblings John, Delores Hirzel, Robert (Bob), Eugene (Gene), James (Jimmy; KIA, Italy WWII), Ruthie Welling, Katie (Mary Catherine) Loch, Madonna (Donna) Henderson, Patricia (Pat) Frasher, Paul, and twins Mildred and Joseph (stillborn).

My earthly journey included St. Ignatius Church where I was baptized, First Holy Communion, Confirmation, and Marriage. There I served as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and also a minister to residents at Heartland. What joy one gets in serving others!

Many people came into my life by serving on different boards such as Oregon Recreation, Cardinal Stritch School Board, Eagle Learning Center, and the Community Care-A-Van Board. I thank each and every one of you.

Many thanks to the citizens of Oregon who elected me to the Oregon City Council in 1989. What a thrill to serve you in that capacity! I continued in that position for a few years, off for two years, back on, and then in 2001 the citizens of Oregon gave me the privilege of being their Mayor. What fantastic individuals I encountered in the time I served as Mayor until 2009. Thank you for that time.

During those years my journey took me to TMACOG, where many more fantastic individuals interacted with me. What a joy to be concerned with the whole Northwest Ohio on their needs than just in our backyards. People like Judge Andy Devine, who started the organization, and Tony Reams, who led the organization into the future gave me the insight of regional government. My involvement with TMACOG ended in 2009 when my political career came to an end.

Another leg of my journey through life started in 1992, when I began traveling with my husband, Lenny D. Fetterman. We have been to every state, every county within the states (all 3144), 19 countries, 7 continents, 5 oceans, crossing the equator, Prime Meridian, International Date Line, Arctic Circle, Antarctic Circle, Tropic of Cancer and Capricorn and all the imaginary lines. My traveling took me to Italy to see where my brother, Jimmy, was killed during WWII, where he was laid to rest until Mom and Dad brought him home.

To those who called me Mom: Joani Donovan (Scott Gearig), Jean Netz (David Branco), and Jeff (Cheryl) Brown. Thank you for your love.

My grandchildren: Julia Dumas, Matt Dumas, Ashley Netz, Amber (Jorge) Pascual, Madalyn Brown, Sam Brown, and Jack Brown.

My great-grandchildren: Charlie and Ellie Dumas; Mya, Abraham, and Zane Hassan; and Peyton Brown.

To all my nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews (too many to count), God Bless each and every one.

As I close my obituary I wish to say, Thank you for being my friend, and to all of those who have passed my way, Thank You all for inspiring my life by your acquaintance. God Bless.

Family and friends may visit at Freck Funeral Chapel 1155 S Wynn Rd. in Oregon, Ohio, on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ignatius Church where the family will greet guests after 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Ignatius Church or Cardinal Stritch Catholic High School and Academy.
