Melba Mae Slates

Melba Mae Slates, age 96, of Oregon, OH passed from this life on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born to Lloyd and Layla (Grant) Van Camp on January 13, 1927. Melba married the love of her life, Allen, and spent many happy years until his passing in 1991. She held many jobs during her life, including a bank teller, owning a dry cleaners, but her greatest joy was being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed traveling to visit her children, and playing bingo, puzzles, quilting, sewing, and collecting glass butterflies and Fenton glass. Melba will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Suzette (Mark), Suzanne, Allen Jr. (Wanda), and Kevin (Tamara); her grandchildren, Joshua (Dawn), Matthew (Kim), Jonathan (Pam), Chey (Elisabeth), Allen III (Danielle), Walker (Meagan), Krystal, Austin (Melanie), and Amara (Chance); and her great-grandchildren, Ayden, Joey, Hazel, Isaac, Charlotte, Elliot, Karsyn, Aubrey, Gracie, and Samuel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen; her parents, Lloyd and Layla; her siblings; and her son-in-law, Armand.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Freck Funeral Chapel, Oregon, OH. A visitation will be held at her home, 6530 Corduroy Road, Oregon, OH on Friday, July 14, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Graveside funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park, Toledo, OH, where she will be laid to rest with her husband. Memorial contributions in Melba’s name may be made to the National Breast Cancer Foundation or the National Kidney Foundation.
