Michael Dale Phillips

Michael D. Phillips, age 76, of Oregon, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at home surrounded by family. He was born on September 16, 1949 in Oregon, Ohio to Dale and Willa Mae (VanGunten) Phillips. He was a 1967 graduate of Clay High School. Mike married Carol Berning on May 2, 1970 and together they started their family. He worked as a truck driver for 40 years and enjoyed shared ownership of the Grapevine Bar for 10 years. Mike enjoyed being part of the Curtice Community Club and served as past president for ten years. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, football, softball, bowling and volleyball. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns, and Cleveland Guardians fan. He will be dearly missed.

Mike spent the last 20 years as a very supportive grandfather, never missing an event. He is survived by his wife, Carol; daughter, Dawn Henry; grandchildren, Jaron Henry, Keagon Henry, and Jennecka (Kyle) Slayton; and his sisters, Claudette Allred, and Gail Vasko. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Merrilee, Peggy, and Dalinda; and sons, John and David.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Sunday, June 7, 2026 from 2 – 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will take place in the funeral home on Monday beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Allen Twp Cemetery in Williston. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the donor’s choice.
