Paul "Butch" Schmitz, Jr.

Paul John Schmitz, Jr. age 81, of Oregon, Ohio passed away on Monday, November 2, 2026 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 6, 1945 in Toledo, Ohio to Paul and Audrey Schmitz. Butch attended Clay High School for a couple of years and graduated from Waite High School. He married the love of his life (High School Sweetheart) Sandy on June 6, 1964 and they started their family shortly after.

Butch worked various places over the years. He served as an Oregon Police Officer for two years, H. Hansons for ten years, and Champion Spark Plug for eight years. Butch then went on to Hydromatic, working as a machine repair, retiring after 20 years.

Butch was an avid hunter and Ohio State Buckeye fan. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and riding his Harley. His greatest love was his family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Butch is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Sandy; children, Jeff (Kari) Schmitz, Cheryl (John) Walsh, and Paul (Michele) Schmitz III; grandchildren, Angela (Brent) VanDyke, Bradley (Taylor) Schmitz, Andrew (Anna) Walsh, Amanda (John) Howard, Christopher (Jordon) Schmitz, and Hunter Schmitz; great-grandchildren, Braelynn, Avery, Christian, Cadence, Emelia, Wesson, Owen, Ruth, and Skylar; his siblings, Judy Floyd and Mike Schmitz; his step-siblings, Paula, Dianna, and Dick; and his canine companion, “My Little Margie”. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother, Grace; sister, Karen, and brothers, Larry and Wayne.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S Wynn Rd in Oregon, Ohio, on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday in the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at N. Oregon Cemetery. Memorial contributions are appreciated to American Heart Association or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
