Phyllis Ardel Smith-Dunmyer

Phyllis (Phillips) Smith-Dunmyer, age 99, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away on January 3, 2026. She was born on November 8, 1926, to Deejay and Annabelle (Mauthe) Phillips. As a child, Phyllis helped work in her family’s grocery store, Phillips Grocery, on Navarre Ave. in Booth, Ohio, where she learned the value of hard work and perseverance. In 1945, she graduated from Clay High School. She married Norman Grant Smith in 1946. Together, they raised four sons: David (Lois), Gale, Donald (Tina), and Norman (Jeanne). Phyllis worked at Libbey Glass and later retired from Flower Hospital. In later years, she married Elroy Dunmyer. The two enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, and spending many happy days at the Cooley Canal Yacht Club. Phyllis deeply loved being a grandmother. She cherished time spent babysitting, attending recitals and sporting events, and teaching her grandchildren how to sew, play the organ, and type on a typewriter. She also enjoyed euchre and Scrabble tournaments with family and friends. Phyllis saw every day as better than the last. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by three sons; her grandchildren: Marc (Jennifer) Smith, Amy (Eric) Barker, Angie (Joel) Graham, Jennifer (Andrew) Knorr, Thomas (Julie) Smith, Krista (Keith) Sweeney, Jacqueline (Juan) Navarro-Saucedo, Shelly (Desmond) Smoot, and Joseph Pyle; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Geraldine Mottmiller; brother, James Philips; her husbands; her son, Gale; daughter-in-law, Lois Smith; and her granddaughter, Lisa Smith-Cook. A visitation will be held at Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S Wynn Rd. in Oregon, Ohio on Monday, January 12, 2026 from 10 a.m. until 12 noon. A funeral service will be held at 12 noon. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
