Robert “Bob” Eric Birchall, age 65, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully, surrounded by family on Thursday, January 29, 2026.
Bob was born on November 26, 1960 in Akron, Ohio to David and Elizabeth Ann (nee Sass) Birchall. The fifth of six children, Bob graduated from Bowsher High School and went on to build his life in South Toledo.
A longtime member of the Toledo Handball Club, Bob loved the game - and even after he stopped playing, he could still be found at the Lucas County Rec Center catching up with his handball family.
Bob worked as a mortgage lender for 30 years, forming lasting friendships with colleagues and clients alike.
On October 7th, 1989, Bob married Susan Marie Raglow. Together they raised three children in Graytown, Ohio. Their marriage was full of laughter, love, and life’s inevitable challenges— they always looked forward to ending their day together.
Bob had a passion for auctions and collecting – he loved filling every nook and cranny with priceless trinkets, antiques, and treasures; much to the delight of his family. (Estate sale coming soon). Bob had a knack for making friends wherever he went and was a fixture at Raglow family gatherings, usually found in the corner with the other “outlaws,” sharing his wit, often irreverent humor, and unique takes on the world. He never had to move because people were always finding him. For those who knew Bob, no explanation’s necessary. For those who didn’t, no explanation will suffice.
A devoted dad, Bob helped his kids with their 4-H projects and tended to the many animals that came through the Birchall family farm—some more successfully than others. He loved his giant garden and would often have quite the bounty of zucchini and more zucchini. Bob coached his kids’ baseball teams, came to their sporting events, and attended their musicals and choir concerts. He was extremely proud of his 3 kids.
Bob is survived by his father, David; his mother-in-law, Elaine Raglow; his loving wife, Susan; his daughters Becky (Jacob) Huebner and Hannah; his son David (Alex); his grandson, Lucas Huebner; and a soon-to-arrive Huebner grandson. He is also survived by his siblings Ron (Charlotte), Tom, Dennis (Laura), and Sandy (Todd) Leopold; and by many beloved in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth; his brother, Curt; and his granddaughter, Elaine Huebner.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Buffalo Rock Brewing Company - Bayside, 5002 Seaman Road, Oregon, Ohio, from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to gather and raise a beer (or two) in Bob’s honor.
