It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Albert Bortles III, aka Bob or Bobby B, who departed this life on November 29, 2025. He was born on June 4, 1967, and leaves behind a massive legacy of kindness, humor, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.
Dad lived a life defined by his overly generous spirit and his undying commitment to his family and friends. He touched the lives of many with his ready laughter, steady presence, and willingness to lend a helping hand whenever it was needed. His memory will live on in the stories shared by those who knew him and in the values he held dear.
Pops loved many things in his life, but he never loved anything more than his family, his dogs, his motorcycle, and his yard. Grandma said from a small age he was always bringing home strays, and we have always had dogs our whole life; watching him grow with each different dog was a true blessing. He loved NASCAR and football, rooted for Dale Earnhardt Jr. and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a jack of all trades, and he was very mechanically inclined, loved to tinker in the garage on his mower, could get anything running. Cutting the grass was his happy place. So needless to say he was always doing it. Kathie said every time she turned around that man was cutting his grass and taking care of his yard.
Who is left to cherish Bob’s memory is his loving wife Kathie Bortles and their children and significant others, Amanda (James) Blankley, Sarah (Brad) Hall, Bo (Megan) Bortles, and Gregg Blankley. His grandchildren: Michael Moell, Maelyn Sheffield, Markus Hall, and Sunny Blankley. His Stepgrandchildren: Ethan Sheffield, and Elijah Sheffield. His siblings: Laura (Greg) Centeno, Andrea Crapsey, and Chris Miller. His nieces: Jessica (Kyle) Lunce and Julia Centeno.
He was preceded in death by his mother and two fathers, Sharon Fitzgerald, Robert Albert Bortles II, and Gary Boroughf. His brother-in-law Stacy Centeno and two of his closest friends, Edward Hardin and Shawn Damschroder.
Dad was a devoted husband, father, son, and friend. Pops will be beyond missed and remembered in the memories of many individuals with whom he interacted over his lifetime.
In the days to come, those who knew him are invited to reflect on the moments that brought them joy and the ways he made a difference in their lives, at Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S.
