Ruth Gay Miller, 86, of Perrysburg, Ohio, passed peacefully into her Savior’s arms on Friday, May 16 surrounded by family at her cherished lake home.
She leaves behind her children, James (Wanda Wray), Tammy, and Michael (Dorothy); grandchildren Tiffany, Lacey, Nicole, Michael, Nicholas, and Kaylee; great-grandchildren Everleigh, Liam, Andrew, and Grace; and beloved niece Angie and nephew Harry. Born in Big Shoal, Kentucky, Ruth was one of twelve siblings and is survived by Ruby and William.
A dedicated Registered Nurse, Ruth served at Riverside and St. Charles hospitals before a distinguished career as a corporate nurse at Owens-Illinois. She was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, serving as Madam President of the Ladies Auxiliary (1989–90) and excelling on the winning ritual team. Ruth also earned Distinguished Toastmaster status with Buckeye Toastmasters.
Ruth embraced life with boundless joy. She traveled to 49 U.S. states and Canada, sang karaoke—favoring “Coal Miner’s Daughter”—and enjoyed birdwatching, Elvis Presley, TJ Maxx, and her daily walnuts and bananas. Known for ordering dessert first, her creativity and laughter uplifted all who knew her.
A celebration of Ruth’s life will be held at Freck Funeral Home, 1155 S. Wynn Road, Oregon, OH. Viewing will be from 2 PM to 8 PM on Wednesday, May 21st with an FOE (Eagles service at 7 PM) and funeral service on Thursday, May 22 at 10 AM, followed by burial at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Contributions may be made to a charity of your choice in her name. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
