Shirley Slater, age 66, of Clendenin, West Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. She was born on September 6, 1959, in Toledo, Ohio, to Dairel and Mary Slater. She spent her early years in Toledo and later made Clendenin, West Virginia home.

Shirley worked as a teacher for 38 years with Clay County Schools in Clay, West Virginia. Throughout her life, Shirley was known for her kindness, sense of humor, selflessness, faith, and commitment to her children and grandchild. She was passionate about teaching and dedicated herself to supporting and loving her many students throughout her career.

Above all, Shirley cherished her family. She is survived by her loving children, Jacob Slater and Madelene Slater (Brandon); sisters, Connie (Lloyd) Haines and Darla Britt; brother, Roger Slater; granddaughter, Olivia Slater; nephews, Dale (Heather) Britt and Levi Slater; niece, Dora Shurelds; great nephew, Castiel Shurelds; and great nieces, Hailey Britt and Hannah Britt.

Shirley was preceded in death by her father and mother, Dairel and Mary Slater.

Shirley will be deeply missed and remembered forever in the hearts of those who loved her. The family would like to thank all of Shirley’s caregivers for their support, care, and compassion.

A private memorial will be held in Toledo, Ohio. A celebration of life will be held at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Maysel, West Virginia, at a later date.
