Susan "Sue" Welty

Susan “Sue” K. Welty, age 81, of Oregon, Ohio passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Mercy Health-St. Charles Hospital. She was born on February 18, 1944, in Omaha, Nebraska to Bert and Alice (Priest) Davis. Sue was devoted to her family, always there lending a helping hand. Her greatest joy was being the best Nana to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always cheering them on in everything they did. She was very talented at crochet and created so many beautiful blankets, scarves, hats and baby outfits over the years. Sue was known as a loyal, loving, thoughtful, and selfless person who made friends everywhere she went.

Sue excelled at bowling, making nationals in high school and later competing in women’s leagues and in Ma and Pa leagues with her husband, Richard. She also enjoyed playing and coaching softball in the Oregon Recreation’s Women 30 and over League starting in the mid 1970’s for many years until the age of 69. Susan made many friends selling Avon, often with her grandkids helping with deliveries. She made life-long friends as a member of the Coy Mothers Club and St. Charles Hospital Auxiliary. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Sue is survived by her daughters, Teresa (Michael) Swanson, and Chrissy (Steve) Finch; grandchildren, Ben (Stephanie) Swanson, Daniel Swanson, Nolan Finch, Aly Finch, and Destiny Welty; great-grandchildren, Madelyn, and Landon Swanson; her brother, Tim (Gail) Davis; sisters-in-laws, Kathi Davis, Joanie Davis, and Sharon (Don) Perry and extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Richard, son, Ken Welty, brothers, Bert and Jack Davis and in-laws, Ken and Evelyn Welty.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon from 11-1:00 p.m. where a memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Charles Hospital Auxiliary or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
