Thomas Charles Burkey Jr.

Our world lost a great man, a rock to his friends and family. Thomas Charles Burkey Jr. age 54 of Oregon, Ohio, passed away at St. Vincent’s Mercy on Wednesday, July 9, 2025. Thomas was born in Toledo, Ohio, on June 26, 1971, and was a 1989 graduate of Waite High School. After high school, Thomas served our country in the U.S. Coast Guard. He worked for Norplas Industries in Maintenance.

Thomas was the center of all his friends and family’s gatherings. All-around best Dad and Papa you could ever meet. He made time for people, always putting everyone else above himself. Thomas was affectionately called “Superman” by his friends and family. He enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling, swimming, and watching the Dallas Cowboys and Miami Hurricanes. He was so happy to become “Papa” and loved his grandbabies above all else.

Thomas is survived by his loving wife Tonya; children Jonathan Cready, Alexis Burkey, and Thomas Charles Burkey III; grandbabies Braelyn and Emmitt; mother Linda Burkey; siblings Chester (Christie) Burkey, Jenny (TJ) Cummings, Mikey (Julie) Burkey and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his infant brother Timothy.

A visitation will be held at Freck Funeral Chapel 1155 S. Wynn Rd. in Oregon on Saturday, July 12, 2025, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Sunday at 10 a.m. Memorial contributions are appreciated to the family.
