Betty Lou Szymczak

Betty Lou Szymczak, 90, of Oregon, OH, passed away, Saturday, July 31, 2021. She was born October 1, 1930 in Toledo, OH to Michael and Sarah (Foster) Kozlowski. Betty graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1949 and went on to marry the boy next door, Harry. Together they spent many happy years raising their family. Betty was employed with WSPD radio and went on to work for many years, eventually retiring from the Toledo Lucas County Library downtown branch. She was one of the original employees at the Maumee Bay State Park Gift Shop when it first opened. Betty was known to be a wonderful listener and loved to travel and shop on her many trips. She was a parishioner at St. Ignatius Catholic Church and dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Betty leaves behind her children, Michael (Jane), Mark (Terri), Marsha (Glenn), Marianne (Dan), Michele (Brian) and Marie (Jerry); and her many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; her grandson, Adam; her siblings; and her parents.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Ignatius Catholic Church on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior in the church narthex. Betty will be laid to rest at St. Ignatius Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the staff at Landings of Oregon Memory Care Unit and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the kindness and compassion in providing Betty’s care.  Memorial contributions in her name may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
