Carlos “Charlie” Y. Hernandez, of Oregon, OH, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, October 3, 2021. He was born December 18, 1953 in Toledo, OH to Felix and Eloisa (Ybarra) Hernandez.

Carlos married his one and only, Diana. They shared 50 loving years together. He retired from St. Vincent Medical Center after 32 years of service. He was a hardworking, warm, loving and caring man who dedicated his life to his wife, children and grandchildren.

Carlos loved listening to Oldies and Tejano music. He also enjoyed going to dances, especially when his son was performing. He had a heart of gold and was known as “Grandpa Charlie” not only to his own grandchildren but to many others. He loved making people laugh and had a nickname for everyone. His favorite weekend pastime was watching his grandsons at their sporting events and rooting for his team, the Cleveland Browns.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Diana; his children, Angela (Joe) Flores, Lisa, Carlos Jr. (Melissa); his grandchildren, Joe Felix, Carlos III (April), Emilio, Marco (Brittany), Angelo, Anthony Hernandez and Gabby Guillen; his 8 great-grandchildren; his beloved dog, Johnny Boy; his siblings, Maria (Ramon) Juarez, Ernie Hernandez and Joe (Liz) Hernandez. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Felix and Eloisa Hernandez; his brothers, Gilbert, Felix Jr. and Eddie Hernandez. Waiting to welcome into heaven are his two special angels.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Thursday, October 7, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Closing prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Friday, October 8, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. The funeral Mass will then be celebrated at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Toledo, OH at 11:00 a.m. Charlie will be laid to rest at Restlawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
