Dolores A. Gierke

Dolores A. Gierke age 89 passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2022, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio Perrysburg Center. Dolores was born to Daniel and Helen (Kucharczyk) Baranek on April 21, 1933 in Toledo, Ohio. A lifelong Eastsider, Dolores attended Northwood Schools until her marriage to her husband David Gierke who preceded her in death in 2005. Along with her husband, she was involved in many grassroots initiatives at St. Thomas Aquinas, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Bono and Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Dolores will be remembered for her incredible gift of making people laugh. Along with her great sense of humor, she loved to share food and was a great cook. Dolores was dedicated to her family and loved each and every moment they shared together. 

Dolores is survived by her children Leanna Kander, Coreen (Ken) Reining, Sherry (Ron) Hutcherson, and David (Jill) Gierke Jr.; grandchildren Erin (Shellie Michael) Kander, Kenda (John McCarthy) Peters, Shannon (Chad Ferguson)Kander, Mandi (Chris) Hill, Olivia and Max Gierke; great-grandchildren Katie (Lane) Kellar, Kasey Peters, Darian Fockler, Kellan Drain, Kennedie, Addison, and Payton Hill; brother Bill Jackson and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and aunts Josephine Kucharczyk, Sophie Grusczyski, and Loretta Cieslewicz; brother Donald Baranek; and son-in-laws Michael Kander and Michael Taylor.

Friends may visit Freck Funeral Chapel Monday May 23, 2022 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery. Memorial contributions are appreciated to the Gierke Memorial Scholarship at the Toledo School for the Arts www.ts4arts.org
