Edmund Ellis Obituary

Edmund Mark Ellis, age 72 of Oregon, passed away February 11, 2021 peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Ed was born to Edmund Ernest and Nellie (Kaptina) Ellis on May 4, 1948 in Toledo, Ohio. A 1966 graduate of Clay High School, Ed went on to study at the University of Toledo. He worked as a lineman for Toledo Edison for 25 years retiring in 1993. He went on to work for AT&T as a utility specialist for 16 years. Ed served the Oregon community as a firefighter for 44 years, the last four as Fire Chief.  He was also an instructor, CPR Trainer, taught safety classes and held electrical demonstrations for various organizations in NW Ohio.

 Ed had a passion for music and was a drummer with the Nashville North. Since the age of 15 he was first an honorary member and then full time member of Harbor View Yacht Club. Ed served as commodore twice and held many other leadership positions within the club. He enjoyed recreational boating traveling to Algonac, Michigan, Put-In-Bay and all around Lake Erie. Ed loved his dogs having shepherds and boxers, watching hockey, football and John Wayne. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Ed is survived by his loving wife Eileen; children Mark “Bubba” (Debbie) Ellis, Lynn (Matthew) Spicer, Scott Ellis, Mark David (Racheal) Rae, Mindy (Jerry) Miller and Jeff (Jada) Ellis; 14 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; previous wife of 18 years Sandi (Hibbits) Bailey; sisters Camille Rawlings and Melinda Jo Ellis and long-time friend Terry Patchen. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Drew Smith and his best friend and cousin Jim Ellis.

A visitation will be held at Freck Funeral Chapel in Oregon, Ohio on Wednesday February 17, 2021 from 3 until 8 p.m. with a fireman service to be held at 7p.m. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 12 noon at Hope Community Church of the Nazarene 5650 Starr Ext. in in Oregon, Ohio. There will be a procession travelling past the three Oregon Fire Stations followed by a last alarm service back at Hope Community. Memorial contributions are appreciated to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
